I Am Dracula
Adapted by Chris Steele
Dates: November 27 - 30, 2020
When a mysterious sickness ravages the city of San Francisco, leaving survivors feeling like strangers in their own bodies, one such survivor senses a trend. Abraham suspects these similarities are no coincidence but the work of a hungry, ancient entity silently stalking among us. Set in an impromptu Zoom Webinar documentary exposé, I Am Dracula uses one of the most iconic Queer horror stories ever written to explore what it means to live inside the patriarchy during a pandemic. Perhaps the fervent search for monsters in our midst, might reveal the truly horrifying creatures hiding in ourselves.
The audience watched the story unfold in a series of documentary style interviews, meeting these classic characters who take on new relevance in our current crisis. This semi-immersive digital performance involves a shared participation ritual, staged violence and gore, and adult language and themes.
